SESSION INTRO

In 2023, the world experienced unprecedented climate catastrophes. Heatwaves in Europe and other regions, wildfires in Canada, and large and small-scale floods and typhoons worldwide are becoming more frequent and of greater magnitude. Additionally, crises such as the situation in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East are exacerbating fossil fuel dependency in many countries, including those in Europe, which runs counter to efforts to address climate issues. Climate collapse is already underway, and damages due to climate disasters are escalating worldwide.

Based on the message of the newly elected Chair of the IPCC and in the context of ongoing climate crises and challenges, this session aims to discuss anticipated challenges and practical climate adaptation strategies through presentations and discussions by climate change experts.
